Cultural Awareness

To help stabilize an area, it is necessary to understand the local community – its people, history, traditions, culture, economy, interests, and needs. Expeditionary missions demand specialized cultural experts who can familiarize military and civilian personnel with the different aspects of culture – including an assessment of historic and current conflict, whether political, ideological, or ethnic in nature. This knowledge will improve training, advising, capacity building, relationship building, and technical assistance to facilitate positive relations with the community throughout the mission.

Our in-depth cultural insight will increase military and civilian understanding of the local population and its demographics. We have a pool of expert bilingual-bicultural advisors (BBAs) who function as subject matter experts (SMEs), trainers, mentors, and role-players. They are proficient in Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Urdu, French, Russian, Tajiki, or Arabic, as well as English. Many of them hold US security clearances. These BBAs have years of experience working with and advising the US military and US government civilians at all levels of command.
