Private Sector Development

<p>
As the economy and security situation improves, the private sector of post-conflict societies will grow. International partners can facilitate this growth by building mutual trust and understanding with the host nation. Over time, international actors should develop strong business and procurement relationships with all partner organizations, donor countries, and  military commands. By building the capacity to understand the host nation&rsquo;s procurement laws, US and international contractors can improve and support the implementation of the procurement reform process. In addition, contractors will be more capable of identifying and addressing the immediate development needs of the people.

Beyond the initial procurement process, IDS experts encourage the cultivation of a wide range of business development services and business consulting skills for these programs and initiatives.  These skills assist small, medium, and large businesses by laying the foundation to build a successful and rewarding business.  These types of long-term projects will eventually develop the managerial skills of businessmen and contractors alike.
